Hello Runner,
Welcome back to your weekly moment of endurance nutrition!
Happy Weekend!
How are you doing? I hope you had a great week!
I'm fine, but I have to confess that my week has been dragged out and emotionally difficult.
Since Sunday, I've had every possible PMS symptom, and I got a stye in the middle of the week.
Despite the setbacks, I worked hard and studied a lot. I didn't stop training, even though I had NO willpower to go. I think that's what made me feel better.
Life is like that....we have good times and we also have not-so-good times. Thank God, everything will pass!
Today's topic is a little different, but it also has to do with nutrition.
Today, I want to share some life lessons that have helped me achieve my nutritional, professional, and personal goals.
Many of these lessons I teach my nutrition clients to help them change their behavior to achieve their goals faster.
Everyone experiences different changes throughout the course of their lives. Sometimes these changes are exciting and welcomed, while other times, they’re difficult to deal with. Change can be positive, negative, or neutral.
Some people find changing their lives or behavior easier, while others don't. I believe that everyone has their own time for acceptance, action, change, and maintenance.
Although everyone has their own time, if we want to achieve something in this life, we have to work hard and not wait for things to fall from the sky. That's not going to happen!
Making mistakes is normal; what's not normal is repeating the same mistakes and not making any progress.
That's when we need to change our behavior or our lives if we want to prosper.
I wish I had learned these lessons earlier. And today, I'm sharing them with you.
LESSONS
Putting Myself First
Learning to put yourself first is like learning to be the best version of yourself. In that way, you can help others who need it.
→ Discover what you love to do, what makes your eyes shine, and practice self-care. I’m not talking about being selfish.
This is about being functional to yourself, to others, and the world.
Accepting that Things Take Time
In a world where things happen fast and we are always striving for quick results, accepting that real results take time can be challenging.
As a person who suffers from anxiety, it’s like having an internal fight with my mind to accept that.
We need to understand that there’s no magic pill. Life is not linear; it has ups and downs. It takes time to achieve long-lasting things.
→ Many people want to have a slim, toned, and beautiful body. But no one wants to train and eat balanced for years to achieve that.
Learning to Say No
This lesson is one of the hardest. We have so many distractions in life, and to say no and stay focused could be very hard!
All the times I said no to a situation or something, at the moment I felt bad in a certain way…but after, I was proud of myself for standing up for what I wanted and needed.
→ A weight loss diet is a good example of this lesson. In the past, I used to be on a weight loss diet, and I had to say no to so many foods I wanted to eat. But then, when I reached my goal, I realized that it was worth it and I would do it a hundred times if I could.
Slowing down
Learning to slow down is VERY difficult for an anxiety sufferer who was born, raised, studied, and worked in São Paulo (Brazil). Only those from São Paulo will know what I'm talking about.
But anyway, for many years I took medication to relieve my anxiety symptoms, which only improved when I moved to Barcelona.
It was after moving to Spain that I really learned to slow down and understand that it was OK! Not everything has to be done in a hurry. We need to breathe and do what we can calmly.
→ Chewing is an example of this. Have you ever noticed how you chew? Do you tend to eat quickly, or are you slower and enjoy your food more?
I've had clients with symptoms of gas and abdominal pain because they didn't chew properly in such a hurry. In addition to the symptoms, they ended up eating more than they should and consequently gained more weight (fat).
Learn to slow down and accept that everything is fine.
Prioritizing Health
This lesson is the first in life that we should learn and take to heart.
Unfortunately, I see a lot of people who don't give priority to their own health, and when they get sick, they have to stop working or studying.
Think that without your health, you can't do anything!
→ Prioritize sleep, exercise daily, and a balanced diet that meets your daily needs. Especially if you train regularly or are an athlete.
Clarifying Goals
I've always been a dreamer and full of initiative. But all the goals I've achieved in life so far have been because I've clarified my intentions.
I write down everything I want to achieve, I make lists, I take notes, and I keep them in my sight so I can always remember what I have to do to achieve everything I want.
→ We need to be clear and precise with our goals.
A good example of this is the diet plan. If you have a food plan or menu to follow...leave it in an easily accessible place. If necessary, print it out and leave it on the fridge door. Or even on your mobile phone.
The number of people who don't follow a diet plan and consequently don't achieve their goals because they don't have it to hand when they need it is very high.
Protect Your Energy
Protecting your energy is super important to avoid dragging yourself down and, in the end, not being able to do what's important to you.
→ Identify what is a priority in your life and reserve your energy for it.
Life passes quickly, and we often waste time and energy on useless things that aren't important to us.
A good example of this is spending too much time on social media. How much time do you spend on social media, when you could use that same time to train, stretch, meditate, sleep, study, prepare the week's food, etc?
Track of the week 🎧️
This week's Track of the Week is one of my favs from Avicii.
Cool song, great name, and nice energy!
I've chosen the track For a Better Day - KSHMR Remix by Avicii, Niles Hollowell-Dhar.
